Learn Kitesurfing in Portugal's Flatwater Lagoon
Beginner-friendly lessons and camps on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, calm flatwater conditions, consistent wind, and everything in one place.
One of Europe's most consistent kitesurfing destinations
Portugal's west coast sits in the path of reliable Atlantic tradewinds, giving it one of the longest kitesurf seasons in Europe. From late spring through early autumn, conditions are consistent enough to build real skills, without chasing a two-week weather window.

Easy access from across Europe, warm temperatures, and a variety of conditions from sheltered flatwater to open ocean swells means the country works for every level. But not every spot works the same way, and for beginners, location choice makes a significant difference to how fast you progress.
Most kitesurf spots aren't built for beginners
The majority of kitesurf schools operate on open ocean beaches. That works fine once you can ride, but for someone learning, those conditions actively slow you down. You're managing unpredictable water, sharing crowded learning zones, and spending lesson time dealing with the environment rather than building skills.

Learning kitesurfing requires repetition. The more uninterrupted time you have on the water in manageable conditions, the faster you progress. That's not a question of instructor quality or equipment, it's a question of environment.
Flatwater changes the equation.
Built differently. Built for progression.
Most kitesurf schools are good at teaching kitesurfing. MyWay is built around the conditions, setup, and environment that make learning faster , and the stay more enjoyable. Here's what makes the difference.
From complete beginner to first solo ride
MyWay offers kitesurf lessons for complete beginners through to intermediate riders. All sessions take place in flatwater conditions, with small groups and a structured progression so every hour on the water builds on the last.
Small groups, real attention
Lessons run in small groups so instructors can give real feedback every session. You're not one of twenty students sharing a crowded beach, you're on the water with space to actually practice.
Safety built in from day one
All equipment is regularly serviced. Safety systems are explained and practised before any student enters the water. The shallow, calm conditions reduce risk significantly compared to wave-beach learning environments.
The full experience — lessons, accommodation, community
Gone With The Wind is MyWay's kite camp offering. It's designed around one idea: the best way to learn kitesurfing is to fully commit to it for a week, remove every logistical friction point, and surround yourself with people doing the same thing.
Everything is at the same base, you arrive, you kite, you eat, you sleep, and you're back on the water the next morning. No transfers, no planning, no lost days.
Wind is unpredictable. The 3-hour action guarantee means that regardless of conditions on any given day, you'll get a minimum of 3 hours of water activity, kitesurfing, windsurf, SUP, or another option. You don't lose a day to the weather.
Aveiro — where the lagoon meets the Atlantic
MyWay is based in Gafanha da Nazaré, on the edge of a large tidal lagoon on Portugal's central Atlantic coast. The lagoon provides the calm flatwater conditions for learning. The open ocean is minutes away for when you're ready to progress.

Aveiro itself is a small Portuguese city known for its canals, tiled architecture, and easy-going character. It's 45 minutes south of Porto, accessible by train, and doesn't require a car.
When to come
The main kitesurf season in Portugal runs from May through October. Wind is most consistent from June through September, with July and August being the busiest months on the water. For beginners who want reliable conditions without peak-season crowds, May, June, and September tend to offer the best balance.
